This weekend we are hosting two visual arts events here at Matt McLeod Fine Art Gallery. Friday night, we are open 5:00-8:00 p.m. for Second Friday Art Night. Then on Saturday, we are a destination on the Open Studios Little Rock Tour. It's a great way to kick off the summer with exraordinary visual art.
Thursday, May 11th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm we are hosting the opening reception of Just The Way Things Are, visual arts exhibition, featuring the drawings and paintings of Jeremy Couch at Matt McLeod Fine Art Gallery. Refreshments will be served and musicians are welcome to play the public piano. The exhibition begins May 11th and ends June 29th.
I was working one day with my former greatest-intern-of-all-time intern, Jeremy Couch. When I told Jeremy that I was on the lookout for a great painter, he asked me if I knew Heidi Hogden. I did not. Jermey told me that Heidi was the new Artist-In-Residence and Professor of Painting at University of Arkansas, Little Rock and that I should take a look at her work. Knowing that UALR has hired some really great art professors, I Googled Heidi and indeed loved the work that I saw.
I met Wayne Salge at the annual Sculpture In The Rivermarket event approximately 3 years ago. I liked Wayne's work immediately. Salge has an ability to reduce his representational forms to only the essential angles and planes.
Starting in March, I decided to devote a portion of every day to creating new art. I have been spending too much time working on my books for my tax return! Now that the accounting is done (most of it, anyway), I am painting again! Woohoo!! My latest work, Riding The Trail is so fresh, you can still smell the linseed oil drying on this 48" x 24" original canvas.
Hadiza is an original painting - acrylic on paper, mounted on panel, from Arkansas artist Angela Davis Johnson. Davis Johnson grew up in the Mississippi River Delta area of Arkansas, launched her art career in Little Rock and is, now living and working in Atlanta, GA. Hadiza is one of five in a series of missing or exploited African women painted by Davis Johnson.
Faith and Truphena has become a crowd favorite within the Key Connections to Humanity collection. This charming black & white photograph is from our newest artist, John David Pittman. Pittman, a commercial photographer living and working in Little Rock, shot this image of two adorable young Kenyan school girls, on a recent trip to Nairobi and the surrounding African bush country.
